A killer blend of Latin and African rhythms – topped by Kante Manfila’s amazing work on guitar, which is produced with a range of weird and wonderful sounds! There’s a quality to this music that’s beyond easy description – a 60s blend of African roots and outside influences – most strongly an influx of Afro-Cuban rhythms, but also a touch of Anglo rocking on the guitar sound and production, and on the cool use of organ on a number of the best tracks. The rhythms are often quite tight – dancing lightly on some pachanga-oriented numbers, hitting a bit harder on some boogaloo tracks – and then really letting loose on some of the really fierce cuts. Sorry Bamba delivers flute or trumpet lines on some tracks – and his flute is especially nice, with a really sharp-edged, eerie sort of quality. Collection features work recorded together by the pair or under Kante’s name – plus a few solo tracks by Sorry – and the LP version features 10 tracks that include “Mobakan”, “Air Afrique”, “Super Bara Serah”, “Keleya”, “Serre”, “Bravo Mimos”, “N’Diarabi Bedonna”, “Tira Kaba”, “Djantou Madjila”, and “Ladji”.
